Using a blackberry device as a modem on your Mac
While on the windows platform it was sufficient to only provide the username and password for the providers APN, with Mac OSX a generic modem phone number is required. This phone number is “*99***1#“.
For a username and password for the providers APN you have to consult your provider.
The user name for A1 (Austria) is ppp@A1plus.at with the password ppp.
In the “Advanced” settings choose “Research in Motion” as vendor, “BlackBerry IP Modem (GSM)” as model, “a1.net” as APN!
Blackberry unlocking
A few days ago I had to unlock 2 of my Blackberry devices, a Curve 8300 and a Bold 9000. Yesterday a friend asked me what service I had used. It was unlockberry.co.uk and I was really satisified with the service they provide. However, I recommend that you use their (Black)berry logger software that reads device internal parameters and send that to their team after you have purchased unlocking. That seems to be more reliable than selecting the device type and the network provider.
Blackberry accesspoint configuration for 3rd-party applications
Yesterday I activated my data package for having internet access from my blackberry curve.
After installing Opera and another custom application for which I’m beta-tester I figured that these apps were not able to connect to the internet (the built-in browser however was).
For configuring the APN (access point) I found the setup guide for the Opera Mini extremely helpful. It suggests APN setup for providers world wide.
